i went to the workers' party's rally at the field off hougang ave 4 last night. dragged my dad along wiv mi coz i've never been to one be4. n of coz, i realli wanted to see wat they could offer.
gawd were there tons of ppl!! i'm serious, even my dad said it was the largest turn out he'd eva seen in his life. approx. 50, 000 ppl at least. accurate? i dunno... but u guys should have seen it for urself to believe! man i was amazed. but sadly, i was like super puzzled the entire time. the speech which slyvia lim made was rather disappointin... at least for mi... i was realli expectin alot from them seeing how they appear to be the strongest opp party. surely they can give us a better alternative?
oh yea, i noe tt parties diss other parties durin their rallies but wat does all the dissin prove if not for real concrete implementations?? sylvia lim went on abt livng costs risin under the pap's belt but neither did she provide any substantial alternatives. this was wat she said something like this.. "We may not have the details to our policies yet, BUT i'm sure...." i mean! wth rite? if a party wants to go against certain policies the present one made, n expect the peoples to support it, shouldn't they come up wiv something better den tt? for tt 45 min while i stood there, all i heard was constant dissing abt pap in mandarin, teochew n english. where are the, "This is what we will do instead..." (s)???? strangest thin g was the speeches could hardly be heard, except for the one sylvia lim made, yet ppl all ard juz cheered n roared along wiv the dissing! how come? on wat basis r they cheerin? for the fact tt a party has openly criticised the pap (which they all fear to do), or becoz they honestly believe the WP can provide them wiv what they need???
and what do they mean by 'we have a choice'? a choice between what?! options aren't even laid out on the table for us to decide. merely askin ppl to choose btw them or the pap. which is surely an easy choice for any anti-pap person rite? as long as it teaches the pap a lesson, they'll support. how's tt makin it right for ur own lives? as if the wp can truly solve ur problems. no one can. i suppose its a matter of hu can Realli provide more for u.
honestly, i've grown up without a sole political viewpoint seeing how i have 1 parent hu's a pap-glorifier, and 1 parent hu's a silent workers' party supporter. growin up was weird coz u have disagreements openly fired at each other, n then i wonder hu's right? till now, i can't truly settle for one i believe in coz both have their pros n cons. but WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) rite? so what i've seen sadly makes my mindset tended towards one end....
still, my heart's not at ease till i see the pap rally tonite. there's always a need for comparison. wonder wats it gonna be like. i'm a post-65er. i guess all i'm concerned for are answers. not qns. those are for us to ask. not for another political party to ask even more n not be able to provide the answers to their own qns.
